I recently installed a Multiplus 2, Smart Shunt 1000, Cerbo GX, MPPT and display. At first things worked as expected. Then I adjusted battery settings for 2-300a LiPO4 batteries, then had firmware updates. Now the batteries are still discharging slightly when on grid with minimal draw from the grid. The worst part is now I can’t locate the settings for the batteries to even see what might be wrong.
For communication connections I have the inverter connecting by VE.BUS to the Cerbo, and smart shunt and MPPT connecting by VE.DIRECT to the Cerbo. There are SO many overlapping products and applications I’m not sure they should be hooked up this way, but it did seem to work great at first.
I’ve also tried looking for how to reset the Inverter to factory specs and start over but can’t figure out how. I look at where it seems the settings should be but don’t see them.
Thanks Matthew, that’s what I was hoping for. I did a firmware update through VRM and a few minutes ago did the ‘turn off 4 seconds, turn back on’ reset.
Still discharging the batteries. I found the setting to limit shore power to 13 amps so I don’t overdraw my plug and extension cord. With almost no load I should be charging. Previously I found where to set specifics on the batteries but don’t see that option anymore.
I’m still stuck here. Batteries at 56% and I’ve been plugged in for a few days. My shore power is limited to 13 amp since I’m running on an extension and 20 amp breaker with a couple other small items. It should be charging but just hangs here. It says it’s in ‘storage’ mode and I can’t find a way to change that. Why isn’t it charging back to 100%?
I should have included, my draw here is only running 100-200 watts between AC and DC. For some reason it’s limiting the drawn current to not charge the batteries.
In a VRM firmware update you should save your settings, update, then upload your settings again. For safety the update turns charging off, it needs re enabling. See
Thank you guys! This is like learning a new language… after downloading the config file and editing remotely and reuploading my system is now charging! I had thought I could make those changes in the portal but there were several things I couldn’t adjust and couldn’t find the controls for. I’m adding the config file as requested. Please let me know if you see other issues. I’m only 4 weeks in on this project and it’s been a lot of fun but the learning curve has been really challenging. c0619ab62ef5_inst_ttyS4_Interfaces_Mk2_Tunnel.rvsc (4.4 KB)
I truly appreciate the help Mattias, thank you! I started researching this in earnest a couple of months ago and built my system right before leaving on a trip and using it for 3 weeks. During that time I’ve been trying to study all the documentation, and I mean with dog ears, underlining, numbering and highlighting… my manual looks thoroughly used I feel like the issue is more not understanding what I’m reading. There are so many trade specific terms and phrases it’s truly like a new language where I have to look up several words in each sentence to make sure I’m getting it.
What has felt daunting is my lack of understanding of the way the components communicate coupled with the profuse array of Victron products, how long they’ve been around(versions), and how much documentation there is. It’s been truly hard to sort through which instructions apply in my case. The components are all hooked up and worked great right off the bat except the wifi signal dropping out so I hardwired the Cerbo to my network and that took care of that issue.
My first update took place at night in a campground under duress, so although I was trying to follow the instructions step by step, obviously I missed something. I seemed to go down hill from there…
I love this system and am dedicated to getting it figured out, so again, I really appreciate your help. It did 90% of everything I hoped it would and am looking to add a little more solar and another battery to get to 100%. I’ll attach a picture of my install. I removed the outdoor kitchen we really didn’t use and that put me right next to easy access to the electrical panel in the trailer.
I’m sorry, I probably introduced confusion here. That picture was right before I left on the trip so I doubt the settings are the same. I believe at that point I hadn’t figured out how to set the battery type to Lithium and was just excited to have it together and see it working.
The config file I attached earlier should have the current settings. Here’s a screenshot of the remote console right now.
I have the battery monitor set as the Smart shunt and not the Multiplus, hope that’s right. My understanding was the need for the shunt was to just do that. There seem to be a lot of overlapping products, but I couldn’t find any info that indicated I didn’t need the shunt with the inverter. Everything is connected to the Cerbo and I was a little surprised at the option to have the Multiplus monitor the battery. It seemed setting it to both would be confusing?
You did right fitting a SmartShunt on the battery, most accurate way to keep track and again correct to have chosen this as the battery monitor in the System Setup menu.
