MPPT intermittently showing on VRM

Hi again,

Continuing this thread from SmartSolar MPPT no longer showing on VRM - VictronEnergy

The saga continues with the MPPT sometimes appearing on the VRM now after being entirely absent when I first started the above thread.

So far I’ve :-
Changed VE direct cable
Tried VE to USB cable both on pc and Venus GX
Rebooted Venus
Updated Venus
All multiple times.

From being totally absent I can now see it sometimes (but not always) on the device list on VRM. Often it asks me if I want to delete it as it hasn’t been seen for days. I can look at firmware update and after the scan it can often (but not always) appear on the scan and is up to date as is the Venus. I can then sometimes have it reappear on the dashboard but usually disappears after a random time. Or it still won’t appear in the device list on VRM. There seems to be no common theme that I can see leading me to suspect something in the VRM or more likely the Venus GX is getting hung up with a specific set of commands come together.

I’m guessing my only route now is to do a full reinstall on the Venus GX.

Once again, any thoughts very much appreciated.
Richard

Update, tried the latest 2 firmware updates in the hope of fixing this and it seems to be completely broken now. It shows on a firmware scan but device list reports that it hasn’t been seen for 8 days now. We are using a 123Smart BMS but on each of the last two (Victron) firmware updates we have needed to reinstall the 123 firmware and both with and without the 123, the MPPT is not showing on VRM but is on a firmware scan.

Load the widget ‘dbus round trip’; i am betting it is a cpu overload. The venus struggles with the newer firmware.

Thank you LX, however I’d be most grateful if you could expand on that with a layman’s rundown of what I need to do. I’m a bit new to this debugging process. Thanks in advance.

On VRM go to the advanced view and set up a widget for the GX device, parameter “DBus round trip time”. This will need to be a custom widget and the GX device is often called “Gateway”.

See the VRM manual for the Advanced Page.

This will give you a graph like below. It should normally be in the low mS with occasional peaks if something changes state or the workload increases.

Thank you @pwfarnell that’s exactly what I needed.

Yesterday was above.
I rolled back to the previous firmware and things have calmed down but still no MPPT showing on VRM.
