Changing EVCS mode (Automatic → Manual) via VRM fails

System: Victron Color Control GX, Venus OS v3.55 (EOL device) · EV Charging Station, FW v2.05 · Connection via TP-Link Wi-Fi (RT5370 USB Wi-Fi dongle)

Symptom: Changing the EVCS mode (Automatic → Manual) via VRM fails: “Communication problems”. Reading all data works perfectly (VRM live, device list, Modbus/TCP shows EVCS as connected). Direct operation via the EVCS display works perfectly.

Additionally: Firmware updates for the remaining devices fail with “The installation is already carrying out another request” – the counter was at 1391 attempts and remains frozen across reboots (persists). Two SmartSolar chargers were successfully updated from 3.16 to 3.18. Notifications: no alarms. After rebooting the GX, the warning triangle disappeared, but the 1391 state persists. Updating via VRM and VictronConnect (V6.41, current) is blocked in the same way.

Ruled out so far: network (IPs verified, GX accessible locally and via VRM), passwords/network security profile, Wi-Fi dongle (tested, working), pairing freshly established, power cycles of both devices, individual rather than parallel updates.

Hello,

I’m trying again. I’m unable to use the VRM app to switch the EVCS, for example, from Automatic to Manual. I get the message “Communication problems”.
Furthermore, I can’t update the devices because, when I search for available updates, I get this message: “The installation is already processing another request” – the counter showed 1,391 attempts. This figure of 1,391 remains frozen. So my question is: what is the reason for this? Is one issue preventing the other? How can it be fixed?

Hi @Evcs ,

We will see what is going wrong in your installation’s connection.

Hello Barbara,

Thanks! It seems you made some settings changes during the night. At least, the power was out on my end, and now I can access the update page without any problems. However, I no longer have a connection to the EVCS. I can’t start charging, either via VRM or directly on the EVCS. The CCGX also shows that it isn’t connected. However, I can’t find any errors. It would be great if this could be used again.

Best regards,
Sigi

Despite another restart of the system today at 00:26 UTC (the same time as yesterday, not initiated by me), there has only been partial progress: the VRM ‘Control’ section is visible again, but switching from ‘Manual’ to ‘Auto’ still produces the error message ‘Communication problems’. Current status:

VRM ‘Control’ section is visible again
Switching from ‘Manual’ to ‘Auto’ fails with: ‘Communication problems’"

Hi there,

I have passed on your bug to the Venus team, as it was not related to VRM. I am sure my colleague will come with a solution
