I have a new VE Controller model 100/20.
Stand alone with one x 12v 75Ahr SLA Gel battery and one x 200w solar panel.
Load is about 20W of comms gear. (not much)
Problem is the load will not switch on no matter what settings I have selected for load output.
Battery settings and on default Gel Victron deep discharge 2 (factory default)
Load is set to User def. algorithm 1 (off<10v, on>12v)
But the load does not switch on even after 2 minutes.
With Load output set to Always on, the load does not come on either instantly or after 2 minutes.
The jumper is removed, I’m not using a pin code, tried all sorts of settings and factory resets but still not getting the load output to switch on.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks Steve
Further testing I have found that the controller seems to work ok with tthe load disconnected.
The load is a dc-dc step-up converter frpm 12v to 48v.
That is connected to a 48v POE switch which has a camera and a comms link connected to it.
So seems like the output of the controller doesn’t like the input of the dc-dc converter so maybe I need a current limit resistor or something.
Funny thing is if I connect the load with the controller output already on it stays on and works ok. (until it turns off when the voltage is too low and then won’t turn on again by itself)
Just try it with some more linear load: ideally power resistor 25-50 W around 10-30 Ohm, or any of small 12 V bulbs (5-10W). DC-DC converters are well known to have high inrush current, so controller just protects itself.
I would suggest to use the Load output to feed the coil of automotive relay - You will loose around 1 W, but the controller will be happy. If doing so, just remember to place a diode in reverse polarity parallel to relay coil to protect the outpu of controller from voltage spikes.
