Using "Load" on Victron Energy SmartSolar MPPT Solar Charge Controller (Bluetooth)

Hi

I purchased MPPT 100 20 last year & have been most pleased with the performance. I have connected nothing to the “Load” connection & noted that manual did not recommend connecting an Inverter. I was wondering for what Community members actually have used these connectors.

Ive used the load output on a 100/20 to control a relay. That works fine.

But previously i tried to run a compressor freezer rated at 4A from the load output of a 75/15, that didnt work. Too high of an inrush current

I use the load terminals to control dusk to dawn security lights.

Not very exciting, but useful.

My load connection charges the MiFI that the RPi uses to communicate with the VRM portal and also powers the tracker unit.

Do you mind sharing what relay you used? Did you need to add a resistor or other electronics on the relay control circuit?

Thanks! - Don

I am retrofitting a bunch of solar powered streetlights in a private community with LFP batteries and 75/15 MPPTs. I am using the load and streetlight controls. First time I have had a change to do anything interesting with those features.

General off-the-shelf automotive relay but any relay with the correct coil voltage should work, only thing you might want to look out for is an integrated flyback diode.

Relay coil positive to load output positive, relay coil negative to load output negative, thats it
