The old forum had a list of known good USB Bluetooth adapters for the Cerbo GX. I picked one but it was deprecated. Amazon pointed me to a newer version that uses Bluetooth 5.4 so I thought I would try it out. That was a couple months ago.
I installed it but it doesn’t work. Is there a newer known good list on the new forum? Maybe the adapter is too new for my Cerbo GX (purchased in July 2024)?
Just in case it was user error, is there a “how to” doc for this? I did the install from memory, which probably wasn’t a good way to go.
There is an official tested list in the manual.
And the manual links a thread with known not to work adaptors as well. (And some that have been randomly tested by users that work)
I am currently using the tp link one.
Summary
External USB Bluetooth adapters that have been tested and known to work:
Just bought a TP-Link UB400 Nano recently and it works very well with my Cerbo GX. I use it wiith a 2m USB extension cable to get out of the metal enclosure for better BT radio comm to my two RuuviTag BT sensors.
Thanks for the link to the manual and copying the list to this thread.
This is no longer available for sale.
It appears that the working Bluetooth adapters are using older versions of Bluetooth. The one I tried uses BT 5.4. I suppose that could be my problem. I would like to have one with an antenna. Mine doesn’t explicitly say it works with Linux, then again the TP-Link UB400 explicitly says it doesn’t work with Linux.
The manual links to a thread in the old Community. There needs to be a living thread here that it links to. These adapters change more than I change my underwear. A list in a manual is quickly out of date.
What are the installation instructions for the USB/Bluetooth adapter? Do I need to disable the internal Bluetooth?
Well I dont think much has changed hardware wise or firmware to do with the Bluetooth drivers other than adding more products that are supported.
There has been alot of focus on the can products and dess.
They probably wrote in a driver for it specifically.
I use this on two separate installations for 30+ RuuviTag, available from Amazon , line of sight range on mine with a 2m extension lead is about 80m.
TP-Link Nano USB Bluetooth 5.3 Adapter.
Bought and installed the TP-Link UB400. Boom! Worked right away, plug-n-play. (Whew!)
With the camper sitting out front of the house and me sitting in my office at the back of the house (~70’), the only Bluetooth Victron device that shows up in VictronConnect on my phone is the Cerbo GX.
To those that posted in this thread, thanks for all the help!
