How should I connect my CAN network when a WS500 is involved?

Hi,
I have the following CAN-enabled devices:

  • a cerbo GX with 2 x 2 CAN ports
  • a multiplus with 2 CAN ports
  • a lynx smart BMS NG (2 CAN ports)
  • a wakespeed WS500 alternator regulator, with 2 CAN ports, which is provided with a “crossover cable”, the cable is assymetrical with a black terminator on the ws500 side and a blue terminator on the vitron side.

I was under the impression that I could just chain my devices whichever way I want, eg terminator->cerboGx->BMS->Multiplus->ws500->terminator but now that I saw this crossover cable thing I’m not so sure.

do I need to connect the ws500 to the other cerboGX CAN port ? If I do so, will the ws500 be able to communicate with the BMS?

overall, which topology would you recommend?
thank you !

Hi,
Multiplus has no CAN , it has ve.bus, it is totally different to CAN.
Because of the CAN, the manual and schematics are very clear and easy to understand. From CAN port to CAN port, on both ends a terminator.

Victron terminator - Cerbo CAN - standard cable - BMS - crossover cable - WS500 - Wakespeed terminator

Is how I have mine but depending on physical layout the order can be different.

Secondly, completely separate, no terminators.

Cerbo VE Bus - standard cable -Multiplus
