I am using a Teletronika RTU950 router on my boat. It is in the middle of the river and all navigation equipment is switched off. The only thing that is running on the network is the Victron VRM and the RTU950 itself.
If I log on to the router remotely I can see that the boat is consuming 1.65gb a day of data. Can this be the VRM ? I have the widget on my iPhone and tan iPad? it is crazy because when I am roaming abroad I only have a monthly allowance 15gb and the data is all gone in 10 days and that is without me doing anything.
I have a Teltonika RUT X11 on my boat. When my boat is not in use Venus OS for VRM, Heatmiser for the heating and the Router are the only data users and I use 17 to 18MB per day. I have VRM recording data at 1 minute interval. I check on the boat via VRM or VictronConnect once a day, but I do not leave VRM or VictronConnect permanently open in real time. If you keep VRM open permanently then your data use will be higher. I am sure that the Venus OS manual has some info on data use.
I run a Teltonika RUTX08 and update to VRM on a 1 minute interval. The system is an Off Grid Application. I use 25MB per day

GX internet data consumption
Realtime connection consumes ~ 50kbps on my residential ESS system. This could very to be twice or half that depending on the number of connected components. This is only consumed when using realtime mode features and someone is observing the data (such as having the VRM dashboard open, or connected via Remote Console).
The 1 minute logging interval is a different value, this is consumed and uploaded to VRM passively. I have 5 systems, and they each individually upload approximately 15-20 MB/week and download approximately 8MB/week when in 1 minute logging mode. These are residential systems, and this could double or half depending the number of connected components.
This will increase if remote firmware updates are downloaded, they vary greatly in size depending on product, the largest being GX firmware which is ~300MB - and can be disabled.
Here are some screenshots from my router showing the data usage profile. Set to 1 minute logging interval and showing internet usage over the last week.
The correlated spikes in the consumption you see in the data is when I open up VRM and all the sites turn on their realtime connection connection mode.
