Firmware upgrade on Quattro to latest version 555 - With Beta 3.60-25

Hi Have just performed a remote update to my inverter.

The update went through successfully. However the inverter did not start up.
Only when I disconnected the VE-BUS cable to the Cerbo did it start up.

I the used the remote config to reconfigure the system - and again update went through -but inverter did not restart.
When I unplugged cable inverter came back on.

Perhaps I am missing something?

Apply a production version of the GX, you never know if the beta is complicating the issue. Check that the GX doesn’t for some reason have the inverter software switch set to off.

For my information – does anyone know what the changes are between 5.52 (installed) and 5.55 (new)?

I’m still having some issues with Quattro solar/wind priority, is this improved at all?

OK, registered with the Victron Professional portal and answered my own question – no, only some generator/ESS changes, neither of which affect me.

There’s additional changes/fixes between 552 and 554 which aren’t mentioned in the changelog between 554 and 555, notably:

From: Victron Energy - Victron Professional

Yeah, generator funtion WITHOUT weak ac, so full power battery charging possible !

I’ll install first thing after breakfast.

Hi John

Thanks for that, I couldn’t find those detail anywhere… :frowning:

Still, there doesn’t seem to be a good reason for me to upgrade to v555, on the principle that there are always risks with doing this and you should only do it if there’s a good reason for doing it – which there was for v552 to get solar/wind priority working.

If this changes in the future then I’ll reconsider whether to upgrade or not.

Cheers

Ian

Too bad…

still only charging at 100 instead of 120A

still not connecting on generator “solo”, still need 1.5kw load on generator, running without the frequency is constantly shifting between 60.7 and 61.8Hz, Multiplus is hunting, but the hound never gets the hare.

Strangely enough, when i set the MP to “charge only” it will show me an AC-Out frequency, and will try to synchronise. Every other charger in the world would work on any frequency, stable or not…

The generator is a 6.5 KW Onan LPG, 16.000€, 20 years old.

That’s not a problem of the MultiPlus/Quattro, it’s the generator.

A MultiPlus/Quattro is not just a charger.
A simple charger doesn’t need to synchronize to the input.

Victron also has chargers with wide voltage/frequency input.

I know, i even own an old Phoenix 50a unit.

But i don’t have the space to install it, removed it with upgrading from MP 12/2000 to 3000.

I hoped that when i switch to charge only the. MP would behave like a charger.

Have you enabled “accept wide input frequency”?

Yes, i have to, my generator is 60hz, grid is 50, as is the native frequency of my multiplus.

But my mechanical generator is shifting frequency faster then the electronics of the MP is willing to follow.

I would have programmed the system so that it just takes over the frequency/phase from AC-in as setpoints instead of trying to synchronize. But ofc I’m only an engineer with 50+ years experience

Ok, victron and i seem to have different opinions how a “ups” function works, without this the MP synchronizes with the generator, even without connecting a resistive load.

But the batteries are still being charged with 100 of the possible 120a.

It works, thats the main thing

That bug has been there ever since I’ve had my equipment: 2 years. kind of ridiculous at this price point

HI Johan,
Looks like your thread has been hijacked… IN regards to your question about Inverter not starting. This is not a new issue due to the upgrade. I have systems that have the same problem with older version I have never received a good explanation.
My Experience is primarily with Quattro products. We do not use many multiplus.
Problem is particularly accute if you have the Inverter in “remote OFF” or “Charge Only” with loss of DC power. The system gets locked into an OFF state and the only way to recover is to unplug the Cerbo. then miraculously after a few seconds the Inverter or charger If AC is present restarts. Switching the Quattro ON/OFF does not restarts the system as you would hope it does. It “appears” that the Cerbo is the one holding the system OFF.
This is a particularly annoying “feature”. Here is link to the post i Wrote:Quattro VeBus Loosing Connection after remote Charge Only mode - #7 by Jean-Marc

Using the Cerbo to switch between state if the Quattro is listed does not produce any change. Sometimes after a Cerbo reboot, the Quattro does not reappear in the device list. So the Quattro seems physically OFF.
Sometimes I have to both remove the Cerbo and cycle the DC power for the system to work.

I found the same problem with a Multiplus 48/3000/35-16 (brand new older model) and a CCGX. I updated everything to the latest production versions (as at 8 March 2025 - not Beta versions), but when I installed it (on a remote off grid site without internet), I had to unplug the VE.bus cable to get the Multiplus to start.

The settings I used:
Other grid code with wide input frequency and voltage ranges
Shut down on SOC enabled
Lithium battery
No VS
No assistants

I need a solution. I cannot expect my customer to disconnect cables to switch the system on.
