Error 1392 when attempting to use Remote VEConfigure (via VRM)

Hi there. First post, although I’ve been running a Victron system for over two years. So far all has been fine…

As a Mac user, I’ve been changing VE Configure settings files in a Windows emulation and then uploading them using Remote VEConfigure from my VRM installation. This has always worked fine so far. My GX device is a Cerbo and it’s connected to a Multiplus II.

Yesterday I came to change some settings (as the shorter days are coming on…), but I get an error 1392 after clicking on the Remote VEConfigure button, with the message that “the two-way communication device did not respond”. (There’s a delay of several minutes with the message “Querying configurable devices…” before the error appears.) Everything else seems to be working fine; I can monitor my installation as usual using VRM.

I’ve rebooted and powered off both the Cerbo and the Multiplus. I’ve tried various operating systems and browsers (though none of them super up-to-date). I’ve made no changes to anything in the system since the last time I updated the settings. (And I recognise that my problem and error message is similar to another topic, but I’m certain this is not an OS issue in my case, unless my OS is no longer supported: https://community.victronenergy.com/t/solved-unable-to-connect-to-gx-error-1392/39372.)

This feels like something external to my installation… Can anyone give me a clue?

did you on the newest ve.bus firmware is the veconfigure software on the newes release ? venus os on witch version you are ?

No firmware has been updated since the system was purchased two years ago. VE Bus is 2611552. I don’t think VEConfigure version is relevant here; I don’t get as far as uploading a settings file saved from it. As for Venus OS, that’s the OS in the Cerbo is it? I have no idea of version or where to find it. The Cerbo firmware is v2.92.

Is it likely/possible that two-year-old firmware is no longer supported by VRM? I would hope not…

Incidentally, it seems that firmware update via VRM is also not working as a result of this problem. Since I have no Windows machine nor a suitable cable, I have no other means of updating firmware.

In summary, my problem is that two-way communication is enabled in the Cerbo, and the Cerbo is sending data to VRM. I am able to monitor my system without problem. The console indicates that everything is fine. Yet Remote VEConfigure and Remote Firmware Update both give errors.

have you try to clear browser cache ?

try to connect direct to the cerbo via ip check the firmware version of the venus OS.

an yes an outdated firmware can (is the Problem) vrm updates and so

but i mean you must reconfigure the system when you update from 2.92

look your firmware ist from 2017  a update a year holds the hacker away

Maik, thank you for making this clear.

In fields where my knowledge is limited, I’m generally of the “if it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it” school. Solar power systems are new in my life, so my home-built installation fits this category. But as you suggest, with an Internet connected system, I need to keep the hacker away.

I’ve updated the Cerbo GX firmware (only). So far, that seems to have cleared the issue. I should now be able to update my settings for winter sun…

Thanks again for the help.
