Remote Console erratic connection on Cerbo GX

I’d be grateful for some advice.

I have a Cerbo GX (running v3.30) on a totally Victron system on our yacht. I use the Remote Console to monitor the system via the LAN on 192.168.0.100. Recently the access has become erratic: for days at a time there will be no problem, then I’ll lose access for several days.

I’ve tried rebooting the Cerbo, and the router to no effect.

Access via VRM is without problems…but inevitably slow.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in anticipation

Are the connections all wired or wireless?

You’re on a fairly dated version now, so not like any new bugs could have been introduced.

Any chance the device is overheating?

Thanks for your response Nick.

Yes, all wired; only remote console via wireless.

It’s in a compartment with the batteries which report being at 34 deg C…so not cool but I wouldn’t have thought overheating territory.

If your console access is over wifi, then that is the most obvious cause.
You can ssh in and check the logs. At 34 ambient it might have an issue, which should be logged. Only speculating.

Thanks for the suggestion Nick, but I checked the logs and nothing abnormal there.

Furthermore, I’ve been looking at updating the firmware which I believe can be done via Settings > Firmware > Online updates…however under settings I see only ‘Network’ (see attached image).

Hi Simon,
You can update your devices via VRM by Selecting - Device List - Firmware Update. The system scans your attached devices and after the scan displays all devices with their current installed firmware versions as well as any updates which you can select and update. Hope this helps I manage multiple sites and find this method extremely good.

Many thanks for your suggestion, but I’m unable to access ‘Firmware update’ - the option doesn’t appear (see attached image). Any suggestions?

Hi, @Farbrook, to update your GX, get into Remote Console and there go to Settings → General → Firmware.

Latest official version at the moment is v3.63.

For details of recent features, see public - Venus OS v3.60 Release - Google Slides.

Try the new UI, also remotely.

In case you have installed modifications (downloaded some add-on from a website somewhere (not Victron) and installed that using a USB stick), then make sure to update or remove those first. See: White page in Classic UI after update from v3.55 to v3.60 or later version? - #3 by DutchSolarFreak.

But most people don’t have add-ons aka modifications.

Matthijs

Thanks for your response Matthijs.

I can’t see the ‘Firmware’ prompt you mention (see attached).

…and as you can see I can’t access Remote Console (as per my original post).

Simon

Hi @Farbrook ,

Sorry, I meant on VRM, like here:

Can you see that?

The system that this is about is EVANGELINE, right?

Is the Cerbo connected to the network using Wifi? Check the signal, reception should be at least 50% for a continuously reliable connection. (Wiring it up to the LAN network is a 100% solution for any wifi issue ofcourse, but not always easy).

Ps. documentation for updating devices via the VRM Portal is here: VRM: Remote firmware update [Victron Energy]

Many thanks Matthijs, I was being rather dim!

I’ve updated the firmware and can now access Remote Console normally.

Thank you for your help.

Simon
