If it really only happens with the New UI while Classic remains stable, I would narrow it down to a New UI/framebuffer issue rather than a general Ekrano problem.
Pragmatically, for testing:
continue using the Classic UI for now if the system needs to remain operational
under Settings → Firmware, check whether a newer version of Venus OS is available; if you switch to the beta for testing, bear in mind that beta versions can also introduce new issues
if possible, perform a clean reboot after switching UI and check whether it also freezes without Remote Console/VRM access running in the background
if it remains reproducible: post the exact Venus OS version, Ekrano model, time until the freeze, and a photo/short video in a bug thread in the New UI section
I would also mention that no additional software is installed. That is probably the most important clue for Victron/Matthias. Until it is fixed, the Classic UI would be the clean workaround for me.
I had already carried out several reboots via the remote console, but nothing changed.
I had also tested beta 3.80, but it wasn’t any better. It also varies: sometimes the display froze on the New UI immediately after switching over, and sometimes only the next day or after a few hours.
For now, I’m going to stick with the Classic UI and wait for new firmware that might actually work.
I just wanted to report that I updated to version 3.79 yesterday and, what can I say, after about 10 minutes the display froze again.
I have to say, I’m really very happy with my Victron system, but the fact that they still haven’t managed to sort this out with the Ekrano GX, and apparently the GX displays as well, is really quite strange.
There are no fixes in 3.79 that would have affected this. It is RS solar specific.
It isn’t something that is being seen, so maybe detail your installation more. There will be something affecting this.
my system is a three-phase ESS system with 3 MultiPlus II 48/6K5/100-50 units, currently still with 4 SmartSolar 150/45 units, 3 Lynx Power In units and, of course, the Ekrano GX.
The VM-3P75CT is still being used as the grid meter. As I’ve already mentioned, the system runs perfectly apart from the problem described.
As I also wrote further up, the Classic UI works absolutely flawlessly.
Ok, so nothing complicated, no PV inverters, just standard Victron gear.
The two UI’s have very different ways of displaying, so we have seen instances of one displaying and another not, as an example.
When the display freezes, can you still access the new UI remotely via venus.local, or via VRM?
Are you using the small or large image?
Interesting. Definitely a screen issue of sorts as the UI itself is clearly still responsive.
Can you open the new UI remotely and go to settings → general → support and post a screenshot of what it shows?
I installed my ekrano in march 2025 on a boat with many features like temp sensors, tank monitoring, a lot of usb devices including gps, shelly devices and signalk.
I have never seen any of the symptoms you describe. New ui only, never tried old ui.
This is the process that I would do in your place.
1: Disconnect everything from the ekrano, including the internet. so that the ekrano is completely alone.
2: Completely factory reset the device to the latest stable version of 3.75
3: After the reset do not make any configurations at all, nothing. Just use the device entering leaving menus, looking at details.
4: If the device still has the issue, return it to victron
5: If the device works ok, make 1 and only 1 configuration change, and then test to see if it is working well. Only connect one feature at a time, starting with the BMS (if present) only.
6: Proceed as above until you find a feature or setting that starts to cause problems.
Diagnostics is very timeconsuming and painful but it is really the only way. Only make one change at a time.
