Hello everyone,
I am having an issue where Dynamic ESS will not successfully enable on my Victron system. I am hoping someone with experience (or Victron staff) can advise.
System overview
-
Inverters:
3 × Victron Multi RS Solar (3-phase ESS system)
-
GX device:
Cerbo GX (recent Venus OS, Dynamic ESS available)
-
Battery:
NKON ESS ~ 32.15 kWh, CAN-bus BMS (Seplos)
-
Grid connection:
3-phase, external grid meter installed and working
-
PV:
DC-coupled via Multi RS Solar
-
Loads:
All loads connected to the AC output (critical loads)
-
UPS / backup power:
Enabled and tested — works correctly during grid outage
Battery data (live from Cerbo GX)
-
Voltage: ~52–57 V
-
Charge Current Limit (CCL): ~185 A (at higher SoC)
-
Discharge Current Limit (DCL): 280 A
-
Max discharge power: ~16 kW
-
Max charge power: controlled by BMS
Local ESS configuration
-
ESS mode: Optimized with BatteryLife
-
Minimum SoC: 25%
-
System operates perfectly stable without Dynamic ESS
Dynamic ESS configuration (VRM)

Problem description
When I enable Dynamic ESS from the VRM dashboard:
-
The system shows “Loading…”
-
Sometimes I see “Turning on in …”
-
ESS modes become greyed out (external control appears active)
-
Dynamic ESS never fully activates
-
Even after 15+ minutes, the status does not change
-
No error messages are shown
-
Battery behavior becomes inconsistent (sometimes discharging, sometimes idle)
Dynamic ESS never reaches a stable “active” state.
What I have already tried
-
Rebooting the Cerbo GX
-
Waiting until local ESS (BatteryLife) is active again
-
Turning Dynamic ESS ON again
-
Waiting >15 minutes without touching the system
-
Verifying ESS and grid metering configuration
-
Testing backup power / UPS (works correctly)
Result: same behavior every time.
Questions
-
Is this a known issue with Dynamic ESS on Multi RS Solar, especially during first activation?
-
Are there additional requirements or checks specific to the RS Solar platform?
-
Is there a way to reset or clear the Dynamic ESS state (GX or VRM side)?
-
Is anyone successfully running Dynamic ESS on a 3-phase Multi RS Solar system, and if so:
-
Venus OS version?
-
ESS / DESS settings?
-
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
