Disable WiFi on Cerbo GX (get rid of the anoying blinking orange WiFi Led

Quick question I found the same questions but non answered in the archives so I give it another go.

More than once a customer has called me about an error on the cerbo gx as there is an orange led blinking.
Orange is (like on the traffic lights / general lights in traffic ) a colour of warnings as most of us are conditioned.

All the cerbo’s I install are connected via a Ethernet LAN cable to connect to the network (as I strongly believe this is the best / most fail safe option).

So I am wondering is there a way to just disable WiFi to get rid of this orange LED that is causing more questions than doing any good ?

Ooh currently all my installed Cerbo’s are still on v3.55.

Wondering if this could be solved in the OS, if not possible I will start modding my future Cerbo’s bij removing the led from the mother board.

You are an extreme :joy:
Do you realize that if any problems arise related to manufacturing defects of components, your Cerbo is no longer covered by warranty?
Recommend Your clients take sedatives :grin:

Another advice I saw was going old school; sticking a black tape on the light.

@Diessel not extreme just solving a stupid design flaw, who ever thought this was a good idea on a device that has WiFi and an Ethernet connection option has probably had a bad idea.

Fun fact the neighboring blue tooth LED is off when no BlueTooth is being used.
I am just wondering why different behaviour for actualy the same usability.

So as explained in my opening post, I fully understand my clients that if they see an orange light blinking there is something wrong with the device. Dont’t you ?

@Fideri also an option but finding it not clean / profesional looking to put a piece of tape on the device.
Would be an option to open de Cerbo and place the tape on the inside but than the warranty is already voided I guess so then I rather heat up my soldering Iron and quickly get rid all together.

Even will save some energy hahahaha.

I’m probably luckier with my clients. Firstly, my clients hardly ever visit installation area. They simply have nothing to do there.
Secondly, before the GX Android Display appeared, everyone actively used the VRM App.
Now I actively offer the GX Android Display in any comfortable place for the client.
Therefore, no one sees Cerbo and other components.
And my phone is almost always silent :wink:

Cheers

@Diessel Still not answering my question about your opinion about the design flaw.
Bluetooth LED is off when disabled, Wifi LED is allways on or blinking, why not the same option as BlueTooth LED, off when disabled.
Despite the poor choice of using orange which is used as an international colour of warning.

Green = all good
Orange = Warning
Red = Fault / error

Used on all my equipment, wel allmost as my MP’s also have orange indicator leds showing the status of the charger.

ОК, ОК, ОК

I understand the logic of your reasoning.
If look at it conceptually, I agree that the light indication should be intuitive and not cause irritation without reason. But I don’t pay attention to such trifles. There are more important aspects that developers should focus on.

Sorry, maybe it’s not what you want, but why don’t you try to disable the leds from the menu?
The option’s there since many versions back…
Just turn it off and both leds will not light anymore.

Well as I also understand your point of view, I allways try to involve my clients with their new setup / installation they paid a fair amount of money for.
I do like the looks of the Victron equipment so I install every component visual with the idea / intention I am able do do remote support via phone even when there is no Internet connection (in a full power down situation that has happened to my a few times) and my clients are able to visual inspect all status leds.

Further more most installation I do are installed in a garage or shed and in plain sight for my customers.

@alexpescaru Sir you are a genius, I thought this would also disable the MP status LEDS but no, this is only the Cerbo ! Thank you Issue solved.

This will disable all Cerbo indication, we are talking about selective disabling of the Wi-Fi function.
