Difference between the retail Cerbo-GX mk2 and the Cerbo in an EasySolar-II

To the systems experts;

  1. Can you point me to a document covering this, or
  2. Can you answer any of the questions below?

What is the difference between a retail Cerbo-GX mk2, and the Cerbo-GX you would find in an EasySolar-II?

Things in common:

  • both have 1 ethernet port
  • both have wifi and bluetooth
  • same CPU, memory, and onboard storage
  • 2 VE.Can ports

Things i think i can confirm are different;

  • blue plastic case on the retail version, vs a plain (potted?) board in the EasySolar-II
  • VE.Direct (taking up one port) to the MPPT is already routed for you in an EasySolar-II
  • 1 VE.Direct port on the EasySolar-II (i.e two in total, but one is for the internal MPPT) vs 3 for the retail version.
  • 1 USB port only on the EasySolar-II vs 3 on the retail version?
  • No SD card slot on the EasySolar-II
  • Separate images, but maybe feature parity with Cerbo, and both can run “Large”

Things i’m looking to confirm

  • no HDMI port on the EasySolar-II?
  • Are they the same image? (and “large” can be turned on to get NodeRed going?)

Edit1: Only 1 VE.Bus on the EasySolar, and its internal, vs 2 on the retail verson
Edit2: Updated the SD card, thanks to @Ramatt

The below document explains the key differences between the different GX devices -

And this has more detail on the underlying board hardware if you are interested in that -

It’s important to note the internal GX card in the EasySolar II GX is not a Cerbo, they are distinct boards and there are quite a few differences which those documents cover in detail. To answer your specific questions:

  • There is no HDMI port on the EasySolar II, you are limited to the 2×16 character display (Though there is now the option to use an andriod tablet as a display - NEW: Use an Android tablet as dedicated GX Wi-Fi Display (beta)).

  • There are separate images for each hardware option, though I believe these two devices have feature parity other than options related to specific hardware differences (displays, relays etc). Both can run Venus OS Large.

  • No, the EasySolar II doesn’t have an SD card slot.
