Subject: Request for Firmware Update – Missing Generator Controls on EasySolar-II GX
Dear Victron Engineering Team,
I am writing to express my disappointment regarding the lack of accessible generator control functionality on my Victron EasySolar-II 48/5000/70-50 GX system.
Your product literature and online documentation strongly suggest that generator start/stop controls, silent period settings, and manual start/stop are available directly through the GX Console (Remote Console / Victron app). Unfortunately, this is not the case on the EasySolar-II GX model as shipped.
Issues encountered
-
The Generator Start/Stop menu does not appear anywhere in Remote Console unless the internal relay is manually re-assigned in a way not described in the manuals.
-
The front-panel display contains no menu access, despite documentation implying that configuration is possible.
-
The EasySolar-II GX presents itself as a fully GX-integrated unit, yet essential generator-related menus are hidden, inaccessible, or missing entirely.
-
Online resources and printed literature lead users to believe that generator control is straightforward on GX-equipped models, which is misleading in real-world usage.
Impact
For off-grid users like myself, generator automation is critical. Without accessible settings, the system cannot be configured to:
-
Automatically start/stop a generator based on voltage, SOC, load, or time-of-day
-
Enforce “quiet hours” (silent times)
-
Provide a manual start/stop button in the console
-
Expose relay configuration in a predictable, documented way
This makes generator integration far more difficult than advertised, and not at all consistent with what Victron’s documentation implies.
Request to Victron
I kindly request that the engineering team:
-
Release a firmware update for Venus OS on the EasySolar-II GX that makes:
-
Generator Start/Stop menu visible by default
-
Manual start/stop control available in the console
-
Silent-period scheduling built-in
-
Relay assignment for generator control intuitive and properly documented
-
-
Update the documentation to clearly distinguish between:
-
Cerbo GX / Venus GX behavior
-
Internal GX implementations on EasySolar-II units
-
Front-panel display limitations
-
This would prevent further confusion and greatly improve user experience for off-grid installations.
Relevant community references
To illustrate that this is not an isolated issue, here are two Victron Community threads showing the same problem:
These threads demonstrate that the issue is widespread and has persisted for several firmware generations.
