Connection problem between Venus GX and MPPT

Hi.

I have 2 MPPTs (Blue Solar) which are connected to Venus GX via 2 ve.direct cables. Now I want to add the 3rd MPPT, but Venus GX has only 2 ve.direct inputs. I bought RJ45 Victron cable to switch the connection via ve.can (picture below). There are also 2 inputs for ve.can in Venus GX. 1 is already used for JK BMS. I wanted to test the ve.can connection with my already installed MPPT. So I disconnected the ve.direct cable from MPPT (I left the other end of ve.direct cable in Venus GX) and connected the RJ45 cable to MPPT and Venus GX. But the Venus GX did not recognise the MPPT. I thought it is because of the terminator, so I attached 1 terminator into the MPPT. I couldn’t add the second terminator to Venus GX as all ve.can inputs are now occupied. But Venus GX did not recognise the MPPT either. I tried the same excercise with the other MPPT but same result.

Do you know what can be the issue?

Pretty sure you need to daisy chain them. The terminator goes on the first and last connection. If you can’t get it to work can use a ve direct to usb cable.

VE CAN uses 250 kbps baud rate and can not be adjusted. BMSs normally use 500kbps but some can be configured for 250 kbps. You need to make sure the BMS and Venus GX are set to 250 kbps if you are connecting a VE CAN device.

The easiest solution would be to use a ve direct to usb cable link.

The Venus GX has 2 can bus systems. link.

The second can bus is described as a BMS can, and is NOT GROUND ISOLATED. Could be a problem with a BMS that disconnects the battery negative.

KISS applies here. Tinker with can or add a ve direct to usb cable.
