Cerbo GX WiFi no longer connecting to network(s)

, ,

In service 4 years, suddenly overnight the Cerbo dropped connection with the wifi and did not return (a week ago). Rebooted multiple times both automatically and manually. Tried connecting to other WiFi sources. Ensured those sources would accept new clients. WiFi emblem blinks for just a few seconds but then stops. Router within 25’ in line of sight, signal strength consistently above 70%. Checked for Cerbo firmware updates (already up to date). Rolled back Cerbo firmware to 3.41. None of this changed the result. Cerbo will communicate via Ethernet but WiFi will not connect.

Any other troubleshooting tips would be appreciated. Want to confirm failure and also determine if a USB wifi adapter would be a temporary work-around or if that would be a waste if it is a software issue.

Can’t get technical support from vendor (aside from send it to us and your system will be down for weeks - won’t even try any remote troubleshooting to confirm failure).

As you have an older I wonder if it was affected by the wi fi antenna issue, link attached, although as you have had good connection this seems less likely as an issue.

Can you temporarily hook up the Cerbo to the router via ethernet LAN cable to see if that works.

Yes, the Cerbo will communicate over ethernet LAN cable.

@rECUpirate

did you change network settings an the access point?
Cerbo can not handle extended WIFI channels e.g. Ch13.
Maybe auto channel on access point / router like?
Inhaf this issue with my Fritz.box wegen optimzing my mesh.

I have cerbos on 3.41/2 and no issues. One in a particularly warm environment. One from the early days. So not likely firmware. Possibly you have a side problem.
Does the hotspot work? Does it even see the networks?
Have you tried with https switched off?

The other thing you can try besides an external antenna is actually a full reset.

No change to network settings. It went down overnight unprovoked.

Yes it sees the networks. The wifi flashes for a few seconds and then stops the attempt to connect.

Not sure how to try https switched off but an open to suggestions.

I may look into a full reset as the next option.

If the signal is above 50%, it should connect. Unless for some reason its not getting an ip address.
Start with the reset and then we can work from there.

Finally did the full reset. It is behaving the same and still unable to connect to a Wifi network.

I can’t think of a reason why unless there is a physical problem. Which means it has to be returned for an rma

I agree with @lxonline it does sound faulty.

But…
In your WiFi switches can you view “nearby devices or stations” and see the Cerbo IP?

The only other thing to check is has its IP/MAC been blocked, MAC Address filtering could cause this issue (if you use it), if not RMA it.

Possibly if it is not a network issues, one last attempt is to reset to factory?
Instructions here.
