My Cerbo GX has in recent months lost connection to WiFi frequently. Has been working perfect for many years. Now out for a week, then available for a couple of weeks, now out again. Updated firmware in January but did not help. Other WiFi equipment on board is working without drops. Router has only WiFi, no LAN-port, so not able to cable. No other WiFi networks in the nearby area.
Hi @Synjar,
Try and use ethernet.
The first and best remedy is to try and connect the Cerbo GX via hardwired ethernet.
If that isn’t possible, the next thing I would try to get a higher powered USB WiFi dongle that has a large external antenna.
Reboot if disconnected feature
There is a feature on the GX as well that will reboot it if it loses internet connection, I usually enable this on wifi connected GX devices.
This can also help force the GX to try and reconnect to a wifi network if it drops out.
This depends on the internet though, so if you are just using it for a local network connection (such as on a boat at sea) it won’t be any use.
Settings → VRM → Reboot device when no contact → On
Shared 2.4Ghz/5Ghz wifi networks aren’t reliable
One other thing to check is if your router is broadcasting a shared 2.4Ghz/5Ghz wifi network on the same SSID name. This is also a common cause of wifi connection issues. The built in wifi on the Cerbo GX only supports 2.4Ghz.
An external USB wifi dongle will support both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz on the same SSID, and will solve this issue if you can’t reconfigure your router.
Ethernet and then external wifi dongles with antenna are the best solutions in my experience, if the connection isn’t reliable, .
There is a supported list here; but it is not exhaustive. Many other USB WiFi dongles will also work.
