Cebro GX 3.75 connection dropouts, LAN LED lit even though no cable is connected

Hello everyone,

For quite some time now [about once a month over the last 2 years, and almost 3–5 times a day over the last 3 months], my Cebro GX running firmware 3.75 has been losing its connection to the LAN/VRM portal. I connected a laptop to the cable and ran a continuous ping for 2 hours with 0% packet loss, so the line itself seems to be working. While the pings were running, I also connected the Cebro once, but it was unable to establish a connection.

What I find very strange is that, even though no LAN cable is connected to the Cebro, both LEDs are lit—is that really normal? The LEDs do go out “at some point”, but when I plug in a cable, they often stay off…

Any ideas?
Many thanks in advance

Stefan

That is not normal, no.

I will add, as a complete aside, that you have a VE.Can terminator in the spare VE.Bus port. Remove that; as detailed in the user and installation manual, VE.Can terminators are only to be used in VE.Can ports.

Do you mean this one?

Yes! That’s a VE.Bus port, and must not have a VE.Can terminator in it. I don’t think that’s what’s causing your specific issue, but it can certainly cause issues in general, thus the warning in the manual.

With regard to your issue, I’d suggest taking the Cerbo out for a bit and double-checking the pins in the Ethernet port; hard to zoom in far enough, but those pins look a little funky, it’s possible that some corrosion or bent/crossed over pins or something could be causing the port to think something’s plugged into it.

The termination resistor belongs in the 2nd BMS-CAN port, not in the VE.BUS
port.

What kind of system are you dealing with?

Thanks, I’ll try cleaning the pins.

And just to be safe: the resistor then needs to go “above, underneath the blue cable”, right?

My system:

Cebro GX

3x BlueSolar Charger MPPT 150/60 rev2

EVCS wallbox

MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-50

And a 13 kWh battery.

Yes, exactly—that’s where the terminating resistor belongs.

However, as already mentioned, that won’t solve the problem with the illuminated lights.

Is this an ESS system?
And are any software extensions installed?

Yes, it’s an ESS system.

About three years ago, I installed Node-RED – Venus Large OS because I wanted to write a “script” for the wallbox, but I never got around to it. In short, I only installed it and then never programmed or changed anything.

Okay, and how did you connect the grid meter — via Wi-Fi?

And please take a look at what your Cerbo is showing:

As far as I know, I haven’t connected any electricity meter…

In the configuration, I searched for energy meters, but none is listed there; there’s nothing under ModBUS TCP/UDP either.

Ethernet shows as “not connected”, so I’m using wireless instead, but the signal is extremely weak here. I’ve also tried disabling wireless and setting a static IP over the cable, but nothing has worked.

Is this a single-phase or three-phase system?

3-phase

Hi Stefan, how did you set up an ESS system with a three-phase MultiPlus without using a separate grid meter?

I don’t know, a tradesperson/electrician did it… maybe I don’t have an ESS, but according to Google’s definition of ESS, I seem to have that kind of system after all

Maybe the electricity meter is having connection problems and that’s why it isn’t showing up for me?!

Let’s take a slightly less speculative look at this together:

Have a look on the remote console under → Settings → Devices and post a picture of it

then one of

→ Settings → System Setup → ESS

Is there no documentation for the system?

And if a company installed it, the first thing you should always ask yourself is: Is it still under warranty?

Hi Dirk,

let’s see if we can get a clearer picture

Screenshots attached.

There’s no documentation, and the warranty should still be valid. I had the system switched off for 8 hours, but unfortunately that didn’t help  Ethernet now shows as connected, even when the cable is unplugged… Refreshing the window doesn’t change anything either, and the LEDs are lit. I’ve tried cleaning the port…

Hello Stefan,

you have the following devices:

Let me ask again explicitly (my crystal ball doesn’t have autofocus
You have a three-phase grid and ONE MultiPlus 48/5000?

Do you know how the MultiPlus is connected? AC In only, or AC Out as well?

As far as I know, the system can’t work like this because the three-phase grid meter is missing…

Best regards
Dirk
