Caravan PSU (PS167) replace with IP22

Our caravan (Adria Isonzo) had a PSU (PS167 10A) that charged the battery and ran the 12v system from mains hook up. It started smoking so clearly needs replacing so I’ve got a Victron IP22 20A.

The PSU was only connected to the 12v fuse board so I assume that I can just connect the IP22 using the same wiring? The supplier said we also needed to run 4mm wires directly to the battery but my logic suggests that is incorrect??

Also, should I use the Victron in charger or power supply mode? Note that we are on a seasonal pitch so on mains hook up 95% of the time .

I’d be grateful for advice
Thanks

You want to replace a 10A charger with a 20A one, so at least check if the installed wiring is adequate for double the current. You could also limit the output current of the new charger if you dont want to upgrade wiring.

Since you want to charge a battery the device should be set to charger mode

Thanks chrigu. I’ve limited to 10A for now and charger mode as suggested. Will feedback on this thread as to how successful it has been for others who may search for this topic.
