Replacing caravan PSU for smart charger

I have a caravan with a 20a PSU that gives a constant 13.8v dc, it charges the lead acid battery and runs the onboard 12v systems (lighting etc). I also have a solar panel that charges the battery via a Victron MPPT controller. I want to replace the led acid with a LiPo battery and also replace the original PSU with a Victron Smart Ip22 charger. Will the new Victron charger happily run the 12v onboard system at the same time?

I did this last year.

To be honest this year the charger spent 98% of it’s time switched off and the whole system runs from the battery/solar.

Overnight charge drops to about 75% which is easily made up by the 130w solar the next day.

If I was on grid most of the time I really wouldn’t have bothered with an LFP battery and changing the charger / solar controller.

So in answer yes even the 15a amp ip22 charger will be enough.

Thanks Gumpy

When you say the charger spent most of its time switched off, I assume you switched it off. If I fit the new charger in the same position as the original I would have no access to it. Can you switch the output off via the app?

The app unlike the MPPT controller doesn’t have a charger off.

What I have is a Sonoff WiFi switch in the power feed to the charger, which defaults to off but I can turn it on from my phone.

There is a lot more there than just that and it all fits in the space in the CU where the old charger was and the IP22 sits on the floor just next to the CU.

I assume the switch is operated via WiFi. I don’t have permanent WiFi in the van so would probably need to bluetooth version, if one exists.

To be honest any switch that will handle the current would do. I just like gadgets :face_with_peeking_eye:

There should be room in the CU to add another MCB just for the charger and wire it direct to that.

Many thanks, much appreciated
