Breaker switch from battery to orion smart

Hi
Can anyone explain what this breaker switch and cable do?
The cable feeds back to the orion smart, but has tripped and wont reset, it did reset at first but would trip after about 10 second and cable felt warmer in the uncomfortable range ( hot ) now it will not reset at all
Any help would be perfect

That cheap breaker is there to protect the cable, in case the orion smart goes faulty, or the cable insulation chafes through…
If the cable was getting hot, do check for short circuit before resetting or replacing the fuse / breaker.

I have no idea what the breaker protects but that type of breaker have a very poor reputation for tripping at the wrong current. My recommendation is to replace it with a fuse.

Hi
I have checked the integrity of the cable
Right back to the orion smart and no chaffing issues so the short must be in the orion smary
I still dont understand the purpose of this cable, its not supplying any voltage to the orion smart coz the breaker has tripped.
The orion smart is working but stuck in absorption when it should be in bulk, how do i test the orion for a short?
Thanks to all

Assuming that that cable is intended to supply power to the Orion:

  1. Remove any house battery from the Orion output.
  2. Check the input and output voltage to the Orion with the breaker open.
  3. If all voltages are zero, use the Ohms range of your multi-meter to measure the input terminals of the Orion (Red to positive) this should start at or near zero, then rise slowly. If this remains at or near zero ohms, then the Orion has an internal short - probable, since you report the power cable heating.
IF the input resistance does go high, then try closing the breaker, and measure the input and output voltages of the Orion again.
