Is it possible to utilize the BMV-702 without the head unit and application, meaning is there a way to configure the device through a user’s PC and USB port without the APP? Can the device be configured and monitored through a serial port that sends and receives configuration parameters through Bytes.
The 702 has VE.direct which is a serial connection, but you do need the display in order to program parameters. Im pretty sure the display is the actual brains of the BMV, the shunt is just a shunt without any electronics. So removing the display will leave you with just a chunky resistor.
You dont need VictronConnect, you can also program things on the display itself.
Thank you for the quick response. Can a different battery be used with this BMV-702 Device or do I need to use Victron batteries? In addition, do I need to connect two shunts in my system. If a have a 24V Battery with a 12 to 24V converter on the front end of it and load on the 24V battery side, will I need a shunt on the input of the 24V and on the output of the 24V battery in order to properly detect charging and discharging of the battery?
You can use any battery as long as the voltage and current stays in the rated window.
You typically install the shunt in the negative side between the battery and all loads and chargers. The shunt then measures the energy going into and out of the battery, tracking its SOC
