I have an all Victron setup on my sailboat including multiple MPPT controllers, a Cerbo GX, Smart Shunt(s) and MultiPlus Inverter Charger. Since I can connect a battery temp sensor to either the Cerbo GX, MultiPlus or Smart Shunt (separate SKU), I am curious what the Victron best practice approach would be? I am leaning towards the Aux port on the Smart Shunt because it is closest to the batteries. I would then enable sharing on the Cerbo GX so that the temp reading can be shared across the MultiPlus and MPPT controllers for maintaining appropriate charge parameters, but not sure if this is considered best practice or not. I am not able to find any documentation on this in the Victron manuals as they all tend to focus on the individual components. I even checked the reference drawings on the Victron site and it really doesn’t address this topic either.

When I had a set up on a boat I used a temperature sensor on the Cerbo GX and shared that through DVCC. I think using the SmartShunt option will be similar. Using either of these is best practice.
The reason I did not use the SmartShunt option was the aux port was measuring the starter battery voltage.
If you use the Multiplus then I believe that the temperature is only available when the Multiplus is on and boats are often left with the inverter off so I would not use this.
Which systems remain operational when the boat is stationary?
I typically turn off the Multiplus and leave the MPPT controllers on along with the Cerbo GX so that I can monitor things via VRM.
Thanks pwfarnell! I actually have 2 SmartShunts - one for monitoring ALL electrical loads and a second one as a device monitor for my Wind Generator. I am currently monitoring a second battery (start battery) using the AUX of the ALL Loads Smartshunt, however the AUX of the Wind Generator SmartShunt is currently not being used. I will order the temperature sensor for the SmartShunt and utilize the open AUX port.
