Adding a battery charger when battery connected to an Orion XS

Hi,

I’m going to have an Orion XS plugged into the chassis battery to recharge a leisure lithium battery.

But when I’m parked home with shore power, I’d like to have a battery charger on the chassis battery, like the Blue Smart Charger… this will keep the battery up during freezing Quebec winter, moreover when I start the cab diesel heater that is factory plugged on the chassis battery.

Will that charger voltage trigger the Orion XS if it is in voltage-detect mode ?

Should I set the Orion to only trigger on the “ignition-controlled remote terminal” signal ?

thx for your help !

Yes, charging your chassis battery from an ac charger will trigger the Orion to charge the leisure battery. 5 options.

  1. Accept it, it will keep the leisure battery charged also, but if you have cold then you may not want this.
  2. Do as you say and connect a 12V ignition wire to remote input H terminal and disable engine shutdown detection.
  3. Turn the Orion off using the VictronConnect app.
  4. Turn the Orion off by removing the bridge wire in the remote input terminals.
  5. Set the ac charger voltage to something below the Orions engine shutdown voltage setting, for lesd acid you could leave it on a 13.2V storage setting to keep the battery full.

many thanks for this clear explanation.
