ESS will not discharge battery

Hi brains trust,

I am having an issue where my battery will not go in to discharge in the ESS.

Victron MultiPlus II 48/5000/70.

Battery is showing all ok with no alarms in Victron and online

State of charge is 99%

ESS Settings all seem correct

Grid meter is reporting correctly

BMS is reporting that it is ready to discharge on both battery units connecting via RS232

I have run out of ideas on how to get this battery to discharge.

Battery units are 200AH 48v LiPoFe4 connected in Parallel via Lynx Distributor (400AH Total)

Anyone have any ideas as I am all out of them?

Thanks in advance!

Greg

Your Single Phase ESS must  be connected to the L1 from your ESS Meter !

Change the wiring ... then of will works .

Interesting @Netrange - thanks for that info.

I suspected that may have been the issue, however I thought it would also look at the total, rather than a specific phase.

I will try that out :)

Ok, that has been corrected now @Netrange but still won't discharge

Think I might just do a full power cycle on everything and start up the system from cold to see if that helps.

Your Inverter-Mode is Inverting ? Is Power connected to the ACin or maybe a broken fuse ...

There's a small cell imbalance which is coming down with the bulk absorption as expected.

What is your country code? If set to standard, it won't feed in.

I'm in Australia @ejrossouw

When you're referring to the country code, are you meaning for the grid?

It's currently set to Australia.

@glipschitz Yes, that is the one. I thought the devices were no longer certified for grid parallel use there? Is the grid meter in front of ALL the house loads and what is its defined role?

Yes, the grid meter is on the main AC feed for the property.

The defined role for the meter is "Grid"

@glipschitz I am not familiar with your meter, but know you have to configure the actual meter for single of three phase on some as well as maybe change multiphase regulation to per phase.

1702206868954.png

I'd be surprised if it makes a difference though.

Check the "Parameter" from your Battery ... Maybe the DischargeCurrent ... DCL is Set to 0 ...

And a Warning Massage ?

Maybe a Configuration Problem with the Shelly for a 3-phase konfiguration with your 1-phase System and the ESS Setup for "all phases" ?

Perhaps, although I am only using 1 phase on the energy meter and have this at L1 reporting to Victron correctly.

If it wasn't reporting correctly to the GX, then it wouldn't be feeding the data to VRM either.

That is all based on Shelly EM3.

I am running Shelly Pro EM3. It's a completely different product.

I am running this code;

I'll order a Shelly EM (Single Phase Device) and see if that yields a better result.

Perhaps @funkmaster86 can shed some light as to why the power meter isn't triggering the ESS as I am using his code from https://github.com/funkmaster86/dbus-shelly-pro-3em-smartmeter ? :)

Interestingly, the VRM ID of the Victron EV Charger has a fixed ID of 40.

1702243592903.png

It seems that a power meter code ALSO has a default VRM ID of 40 which is seems to be what everyones dbus-shelly code injects the value into. Only picked up on this when the EV charger integration with home assistant didn't work because of the conflicting ID.

Changing the ID in the config.ini to be 940 for the Shelly Pro 3EM does change it in VRM, but, the ESS still does not trigger. Did fix the EV charger integration though.

Still no luck after replacing the power meter.

I have gone back to the beginning and factory reset the GX and reinstalled the ESS.

The new power meter is showing up and reporting the grid power as expected

The VRM Instance is set to 41 being unique in the system
