Is ESS available in an asymetric parallel configuration ?

I've seen mentioned somewhere that ESS is not available in an asymmetric configuration. But does this apply to the whole system or just the added device ? For example if I had 3 MPII's in 3 phase config and wanted to reinforce one phase by paralleling an extra MPII (same exact model, I know...) to one of the phasees. Would ESS be disabled only on this device or on all the others too ?

It applies to the whole system, since it will be programmed to act as one system with one GX.
