ESS disable Inverter while electric Car is charged

Hi,

I am totally new to the Victron Multiplus topic.

I ordered an Energy Storage System Set that includes an Multiplus 2 GX 3000VA and an Pylontech 4,8kWh Battery.

I have 3kWp Solar Panels on the Roof of my garage.

I'm also an owner of an electric car with an 11kW Wallbox.

Now I'm looking for an solution to prevent the Battery to discharge then I'm charging the Electric Car.

In the documents I found that the ESS in the Multiplus has multiple Modes

I suggesting the External Control (Mode 2) is the Mode that let me do this.

But my question is, do I lose the "Optimized (with BatteryLife)" functionalities?

I'm only looking for the possibility to disable the inverter.

I have an Home Assistant installation that let me control this via ModbusTCP.

Greetings

Christian

Sounds like you have opted for a UP5000 battery, be aware that 1 is insufficient to power that inverter, it's discharge current is too low, you need 2.

Refer to this link for more guidance:

https://www.victronenergy.com/live/battery_compatibility:pylontech_phantom

The inverter will only do 2400W at 25C, so factor that in.

ESS allows you to limit the inverter power, you can set it very granularly, which would make your life easier and doesn't change how ESS works.

Enable DVCC. Then set DCL to 0 during while charing the car.

DVCC is forced on by default with the batteries.

There is no setting for DCL in the DVCC menu, you can only limit the charge current and voltage.

Just use mqtt/modbus and set the register.

This values are coming from the battery via BMS-Can, I don't think you can change that.

I found this:

Enable/Disable inverter - Modbus-TCP register 2702

Then is this setting available? Only then I set ESS to external Control?

This will work

client.write_registers(address=33, values=3, unit=239)

#Victron Multiplus 2 turn on/off via modbus to save energy-1=Charger Only;2=Inverter Only;3=On;4=Off

depends from the modus ID multiplus, in my case 239. this can be different.

Just keep in mind that if you set to charger only or off and you have a grid outage the inverter will stay off and not provide backup power.

From the screenshot, I see that you don't have an external grid meter in your system.

In that case, just connect the car charging station on the input side of your MultiPlus. Then the MultiPlus will not detect it as a load and won't try to compensate it from the battery.

@Christian-k-1 : when charging the EV I put the minimum SoC above the real Soc of the batterij. When charging all the power will come from the grid. After charging just put the minimum SoC back to the normal desired position.
