The ZYC Simpo 5000 firmware update ought to be automatically updatable through VRM. However, both in the current stable version as well as the beta release of Venus it is not.
Only works when uploading the file manually.
Hi @Gabe,
Remote firmware updates for 3rd party products via VRM is a new feature and for now only available for ZYC products, though we expect more to come.
One deliberate limitation is that Victron does not maintain a firmware library for these products, so you will need to obtain the firmware file from ZYC.
I have updated the ZYC battery compatibility product documentation which includes the necessary details for where to find those firmware files: Victron & ZYC Energy [Victron Energy]
Out of curiosity, is this firmware update something that was recommended for you to do to resolve an issue or add a needed feature, or are you proactively updating your battery firmware just so that it is the latest?
Hi @guystewart,
Thanks for the elaborate update. Indeed I was under the impression that the firmware would check automatically. But in that case I will make sure to frequently check for updates myself.
I indeed tried to see if it would solve some other issues I’m currently experiencing with my new Multi RS setup. However that is being addressed by the dev team as we speak. (And the ZYC FW update did not change any behavior )
For the most part, unless advised by the manufacturer, there should. be no need to upgrade battery firmware. The same methodology applies to the rest of the system, if nothing is broken, unless there is new functionality required, leave it where it is if it’s working fine.
Updates can introduce problems where none were before.
Inverter systems aren’t consumer electronics, so unlike a mobile phone, it really does not need constant updating.
