What Activates the Quattro Internal Fan?

I would like to know what triggers the internal fan to come on in my Quattro 48/3000. I am using the K1 relay in the Quattro to turn on external fans for venting, based on when the Quattro’s fan comes on. This was programmed using the VEConfigure Assistant.

I haven’t had the right situation to test if the ambient temperature exceeding a certain threshold will kick on the internal fan (when not using the inverter at anything more than a trickle). I have two solar charge controllers in the same compartment and they can heat up the compartment pretty good.

You could use K2 relay and set up more fans, use the same assistant to turn them on when charging. You will have to test if the charging status is activated when MPPT charging or charging from the internal charger. The MPPTs will be under external control so I assume the Quatro will know its charging. To get full control of something like this you can use node red and relays on the cerbo if you have one and a temp sensor.

The internal fan is activated based on the internal temperature during load.
I think it would be better to use an external thermostat to activate the external fan.

So the Quattro’s fan would come on only while the inverter is under load? I suppose that would also apply while the Quattro’s charger is under load?

I was hoping that the internal fan could come on based on internal temperature only.

I’m trying to limit the number of thermostats in the system. I’m already using two thermostats and both relays on the Cerbo GX. I’m out of relays there, hence the use of the relay in the Quattro. It’s working properly as I expected it to. I just haven’t tested to see if the internal Quattro fan will come on when the ambient temperature in the compartment goes up.

Yes under a certain load, the inverter start the fans before actually getting to the hot point to try prevent derating.

Yes. Under heavier AC charge is also activates the fans. Also for the same reason. I would guess it is to slow down reaching the point of derating.

I have found using the fan assistant is great for this as it prevents heat build up in the compartment.

I haven’t explored the Assistants enough to see that item. I was happy to get my fans to turn on at all!

I slapped my forehead. I have a vas file called fan assistant. But it is actually the programmable relay (use k1 or aux or if available) - switch conditions -fan…

Which is probably this one you have.
True oi moment.

So you’re saying that you can configure when the fan comes on? If so, that could helpful.

No there is no fan assistant just the programable relay. I mentioned you should check if the multiplus will change the relay state with charge status. Have a look at the options as well, temp SOC you can stack them.
