VM-3P5A availability

Anyone know when the new VM-3P5A energy meter is going to be released/available? It’s been announced and Venus OS has been updated to support it (3.73) so don’t flame me for asking about a product release date :winking_face_with_tongue:

Best place to keep an eye out unless you have a friendly distributor is the price list.

What is the difference between 3P5A and 3P75?

The CTs. (Most likely)
The 5A and 75A seem to refer to amperage

The only mention in the wild is here. (Maybe they are trying manifestation to move things along as the RS rack is also shown…)

This is from a Facebook post in November…

VM-3P5A Energy Meter Upgrade: Increased max current and now compatible with standard CTs for easier installation.

The 5A designation refers to the type of CT’s and not its max current, of which I can find no information. It was originally due for release Q1 of 2026, as per this translation of the link @lxonline replied with …

“The VM-3P5A Energy Metre corresponds in terms of performance to the VM-3P75CT, which is already available for a long time, but works with commercially available 5A metre converters. As a result, it is much more versatile and also allows the measurement of higher currents. Expected to be available at the end of Q1/2026.”

The other thing I’m interested in is a firmware change to the Orion XS range to allow emergency reverse charging of the starter battery. That was scheduled for mid 2026

I am really hoping for a VM energy meter with inline metering in stead of the CT clamps. They give me a headache since they use so much space in a standard breaker box. Especially if you need to use more than 1 unit.

Yes. My apologies for the slightly misleading offhand reply.
It is not the amperage of connection but the ratio of the CT (which matters as it affects how the accurately meter reads )

The ratio the meter takes is possibly/probably different as the 75A at smaller amperage would be less accurate. And also the upper limit in spec is a problem for the bigger systems.

CTs too large for load - poor accuracy on low end.

Current exceeding CTs will end up in core saturation and bad readings. That is why the currently available meter has a max in the spec.

Or maybe its just freeing up the market to buy their own CTs and using a common standard rather than what is available in the box and therefore making the product more versatile. (So maybe in set up we can add our ct ratio installed in the config) Again maybe i am also now applying manifestation .

:joy:

To be honest, all I want is single phase, 100A, split 16mm diameter CTs.

Unless they are finally going to allow the use of L2 and L3 to measure other loads, now that would be nice!
