Victron vm-3p75ct

Hello,
I plan to use for the 1st time the VICTRON VM-3P75CT as an energy meter, to add in an existing VICTRON installation and CCGX / modem 4G. I note that the VM-3P75CT has 2 connection modes, using in both cases a similar RJ45 UTP cable : CAN-Bus directly to the GX, or Ethernet through the modem connected to the GX.
In my case the cable lenght will be +/- 50m. My questions to the community :

  • did anybody already successfully use the VM-3P75CT with such length or higher ?
  • or, is such length theoretically possible for such data communication ?
  • for such lenght, is the CAN-Bus or the Ethernet connection the best way ?
  • and last but not least : I note that the longest UTP cable in the VICTRON range is a 30m cable. If I have to order a standard, commercial UTP 50m cable, which are the main criteria (Catxx, UTP or FTP, S or SF, …) to consider ?
Thank’s a lot in advance for any help

Ethernet on Cat 6 cable has a specified maximum length of 100 meters between devices.

I recommend an Ethernet switch to connect to the CCGX and to the Energy Meter. Cat 6 UTP should be adequate, but if you are concerned about interference from nearby power lines, shielded Cat 6 can be used.
