I used to use a victron Phoenix VEdirect 800VA in a 24Volts solar system with lead acid batteries of 100Ah capacity. I made the decision to replace the batteries with a LifePo4 battery 25,6V 100Ah of the Power Queen brand. The inverter works fine with the new battery but the BMS of the battery when the battery is under load(inverter) reads unstable values of discharging currents and wattage. The fluctuation is in a very large scale. For example with a load of 25watts the reading of the BMS (monitoring through bluetooth application) shows values from 0 to 350 watts changing every second!.Asking the Power queen support center about this they replied asking if the inverter is compatible with LIfepo 4 batteries. To be honest i cannot find this information in my victron user manual.Could someone help about this ,I would appreciate any help.
Thanks for the response. There is no 5.3.1 section in my hard copy manual. Just to make clear that is an inverter and not a charger (victron energy pure sine inverter phoenix 24/800)
I see no reason why the inverter being “compatible” with lithium batteries would be an thing. The only reason that would matter is if the inverter is also a charger. No offense intended but Power Queen being a 3rd party “battery marketer” and not a manufacturer, I highly doubt the person you talked to knows much about battery and BMS engineering. They are probably reading from a script. Likely there is no problem if everything is functioning correctly. Often looking at the minute details of the way electrical components work can drive you crazy. If the battery starts malfunctioning call them back and get it warrantied. There is no reason the Phoenix or any other inverter of reasonable quality and sized correctly shouldn’t work fine with those batteries.
Thanks for your answer. We are at the same page. I also cannot find a reason an inverter (not charger) not be compatible with a battery of the correct voltage and capacity. The only problem is that the “readings” of the current and wattage values from batteries BMS gone crazy with very big fluctuation. I thing that this is because of the full bridge with toroidal transformer topology of victron maybe produce some eddy currents that affect the BMS of the battery. To be honest is annoying .
I hear your frustration. This may be antithetical to your personality but don’t look at the “readings” unless you have a problem. If all is working fine just imagine you have a battery without bluetooth.
Ok i promise ! My only concern is if the BMS uses that reading to calculate the SoC of the battery which will be a problem. if charging process goes well i will not see the readings again !!
