Sailyacht upgrading with Victron BMS/LiFePO4

Hello,

I originally installed a 600Ah LiFePO4 Battery with a REC BMS and connected that to my VICTRON system, which consists of the following elements:

  • Victron Multiplus 12/3000 120-60 (for loading from shore and as an inverter)
  • Victron MPPT 150/85 (for Solar)
  • 2x Victron Orion DC-DC 12/12-30 (for charging the LFP batteries via an alternator)
  • CerboGX
  • Victron ArgoFet 200-3 (connected to the Alternator, which distributes between the Orion, Bow Thruster Battery and Motor Battery)

Now the REC BMS is dead and I wasn’t to happy with it, as it sometimes did not manage to make sure the batteries didnt discharge too much, but once he realized it, he didnt let the charge anymore. I am sure I did something wrong, but now it is dead anyway.

Is there a way to salvage the current batteries and still use them, but with a Victron BMS? Furthermore I would like to upgrade to a Lynx Distribution Box, as currently the cables in the battery box drive me nuts. If not otherwise possible I would also invest in a Victron Lithium NG Battery.

Has anyone tips on how to set all of this up most efficiently?

I tried to visualize this…

The Victron BMSs only work with Victron batteries as they have special monitoring boards in them and the BMS needs connecting to the batteries with dedicated communication cables to work.

The NG batteries only work with the NG BMS. The older batteries need the older BMS.

There are plenty of BMS compatible with Vistron, also not offically supported.
