Victron Phoenix 12/3000 trips LiFePO4 BMS on connection – need advice

Hello everyone,

I’m running into the following issue and hope someone can help me.

I have a Victron Phoenix Inverter 12/3000 connected to a 12V 300Ah LiFePO4 battery.

When I connect the inverter, it seems to draw a large inrush current (likely due to charging the internal capacitors), which causes the battery’s BMS protection to shut down immediately.

Result:

  • The battery cuts off right away

  • The inverter does not start

My question:

:backhand_index_pointing_right: How can I solve or prevent this?

I was thinking about:

  • using a pre-charge resistor

  • or another way to limit the inrush current

But I would really appreciate advice on the best and safest solution in practice.

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Robert

You need a prechatger circuit, see

Or use the search function on here for precharge to see DIY options using resistors or light bulbs.
