Venus OS beta v3.53~2 available for public testing

UPDATE 2025-01-08: v3.53 has been release officially - announcement.

Good day all!

The public beta testing of v3.60 beta series has been briefly interrupted to test v3.53~2. v3.53 builds on v3.52, the current latest official version, and adds a few stability improvements.

The testing of v3.60 beta series will resume as soon as as v3.53 has been released officially, which is most likely in the week of January 6th.

You can help: pls let us know if all works well for you by replying below to this topic.

Change log below, if you are new to the Venus OS beta program, please make yourself aware with the related instructions:

Instructions 1 of 3: Venus OS beta testing & how to join/install

In case you don’t know what this message is about, please start with reading this link, which explains the Venus OS beta program. Venus OS is the software running on all our GX devices, such as the Cerbo GX.

Instructions 2 of 3: How to report an issue?

Before posting, please check if your issue already exists, in which case please contribute by replying to that issue or up-voting it.

Only once you are sure its a new possible issue, start a new topic.

Lastly, before posting, preferably first revert to the latest official release, to double check if the issue you’re seeing was present there as well. Regressions require a different treatment than other issues and bugs. And let us know if you did that, and what the difference is. A perfect report contains:

  • How its expected to work
  • How it doesn’t work as expected
  • Details on the system
  • What you’ve already tried to make sure its not a setting or other issue.

Please take note that that this works quite differently than it used to do on the old version of Community:

  • For a new issue, open a new topic. Instead of adding a new reply at the bottom.
  • To add to an already open issue, aka topic, reply to that. Or just upvote it if you have the same issue. This will help us a lot in determining its importance and manage our priorities.

Instructions 3 of 3: using Node-RED, Kevin’s GuiMods or other add-ons?

In case you are running Node-RED or SignalK, then please at least say so in your bug report.

Kevin’s GuiMods and other 3rd party add-ons: don’t report your gui issues here. Please do it elsewhere instead; and make sure to check out the related issue tracker first.

Changes made by us can cause a compatibility issue with the GuiMods; and these betas report pages are for official firmware only.

Change log

v3.53~2

  • Fix Cerbo GX MK2 VE.Can 2 port failing after some time on a certain percentage of units, especially when running the New UI (gui-v2)
  • New UI aka gui-v2
    • Fix access level issue in various device list controls
    • Fix the max gauge range setting for AC input 2 current gauge.
    • Show multi-phase solar inverter output in watts not amps
    • Fix bug in energy meter firmware version formatting
    • Add missing data for Lynx Smart BMS
    • Fix bug in Bluetooth temperature sensor offline/online transition handling in WASM
    • Update translations
  • VE.Bus inverter/chargers: add kWh counter mechanism for external transfer switch based systems.

It is never ever a clever idea to release software before holiday, especially not for the energy supply.

I really appreciate the rapid development at victron, but please keep my warning in mind.

Thanks; The original plan was to do this a bit earlier; and indeed perhaps we wait till the 2nd or 6th.

A post was split to a new topic: V3.53~2 beta: Can’t change ESS minimum SOC

When a new software release becomes available, it’s often wise to wait a few days before installing it anyway - just in case some horrible bug slipped through

Luckily Victron software is Linux based and not Windows based

Wanted to test virtual devices which is now impossible :frowning:

All okay for me.

@BartChampagne ; @va13; There are some production systems where upgrades or patches are prohibited for a period of 12 to 18 months to ensure that all bugs are ironed out first.

Having said this, someone has to take the first step and identify the bugs or else they will not be resolved.

As far as the Cerbo is concerned at least one can revert to the previous version, or take the harder route and reinstall a much earlier version, to a reasonable point, that is.

When one embarks on beta testing it means one is prepared to take the risks and confident that one is able to recover back to a stable scenario should it be required.

Dear all,

thank you for all the confirmations that all works well. We’ve released Venus OS v3.53 officially just now.

So we’ll soon (a matter of days) be back to testing v3.60.

All the best, and happy 2025!

@mpvader : Happy 2025 and Thank you for confirmation. But why is there currently a beta 3.16~15 in the update function? That’s not a “matter of days” or is this a fault?

Hey @Dirk_S it was quicker than I thought, announcement & changelog is available now.
