Ve Bus Smart Dongle Frozen in Firmware update. Cannot get it to reset or Connect to it

I came back and revisited my system after several months of being away and my shunt and VE Bus Smart Dongle requested a firmware update. I did the shunt with no problems. The smart dongle would not update and now cannot connect with Bluetooth. Lights on the dongle are flashing rapidly and alternatively red and green. Manual says it’s doing firmware but it won’t get out of this mode and did all the troubleshooting I can think of. Deleting the device from the Android phone, Power cycling the dongle. Disconnecting it from the Multiplus, Deleting Victron Connect . It’s now a dumb dongle. Does anyone know how to force it out of this mode to start fresh with a bluetooth connection and restart the firmware update?

Hi Chris,

Did you ever resolve this or is it still in this state?

Could not get it to do a thing. I had to replace it for the client. Tried everything I could think of.

Hi Chris,

So the dongle is no longer in your possession and/or available to do some more testing on?

Kind regards,
Thiemo van Engelen

I still have it. I’m not sure it is worth my time and shipping of a warranty replacement. If you have any ideas to “unlock” it from this frozen state, I’m willing to try.

Hi Chris,

What happened when you tried to connect?
Was it not visible in VictronConnect or did the connecting fail at a certain percentage?
Did you also remove/forget the device in the Android Bluetooth menu (remove the bond information)?

With kind regards,
Thiemo van Engelen

They dongle on the phone is greyed out. The lights on the dongle are flashing red and green alternatively as in an update. Forgot the device on the bluetooth menu and still no luck. just stuck in that update mode and is unresponsive.

Hi Chris,

Have you tried it again recently? When it is greyed out, it thinks that it is connected to a phone/tablet. This should be gone after being power cycled.
