Using WHISKY to Remote VEConfigure via VRM on a MAC

Hi all,

I wanted to post this here for anyone using a mac to remote configure their GX containing devices from a mac. VEconfigure was giving me issues and I had a hard time finding the answer online.

The method I use is completely FREE no trials to use a windows emulating software or anything like that.

Steps:

  1. Install the free windows emulator: https://getwhisky.app/

  2. Download the VE Configuration tools for VE.Bus Products: Software - Victron Energy

Sorry new user so I can only put two links per post. CONTINUED below

  1. Install the VE configuration tools in Whisky (another guide here: How to run victron veconfigure on a mac )

  2. Download the VE.Bus configuration file from your GX product - video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nK-N-bU1gXo

  3. OPEN the .rvsc file. This is the key step. Right click the file, “open with”, select “other”, go to your applications folder, select enable “All Applications”, then select the whisky app. This should now open the VEConfigure3 app as showing in the Victron guide video (above)

I made the mistake of using the “Fake target from file” option in VEConfigure3 which does not work when trying to upload it to the system. You need to open the .rvsc using the method in step 5. I spent 2 hours trying to figure this out since VEConfigure3 doesn’t let you open a file once the software is open. You must open the file directly on your mac.

I hope this helps others.

Nice

Have you tried it with the MK3-USB dongle?

I have one but it wasn’t with me for this install.

From the title I thought you would configuring your system while being drunk.

Hi Stephan,

can you tell us on which Mac you managed to get VEConfigure running with Whisky?
I tried it with Wine on my MacBook Air M3 and failed miserably, because VEConfigure is a 32-bit application.

Thanks
Vesko

Worked fine on wine with 26.x but without the mk3 usb.
But its a pain so use a windows terminal server instead.

That’s exactly my dilemma: I only have Linux and macOS available. There’s no Windows machine nearby.
