I have always had coexistence problems using both VenusOS (RPI in my case) and a smart dongle controlling state of my multi plus. If I have both connected, reset everything, the venusos works fine, the smart dongle says it’s in secondary mode as it should, and I can control the multi with VRM or remote console. If I leave it a few hours, it becomes non-responsive to both VRM and remote console and if I reboot venusos it doesn’t see the Multi. If I connect to the smart dongle during this time, it still sees the multi just fine.
If I disconnect the smart dongle, the venusos control of the multi via VRM and remote console works reliably. Before I discontinue usage of the smart dongle, does anyone have any suggestions?
I have tried this sporadically over the past couple of years across the latest Venusos at the time including both beta and production and the behavior is consistent. I also keep the smart dongle on the latest firmware as well as the multi.
Thanks in advance
Using both a wired connection to Venus OS at the same time as the VESmart Bluetooth network is not recommended and never has been because it can result in erratic behaviour. Sometimes it works but mostly at some point conflict occurs.
I am not sure of official documentation on this but it came up a lot on the old community forum.
I also think that the Multiplus should only be connected to one other VE Bus device at a time as again conflicts can occur.
Thank you for the response. Both of these devices are hard wired using VE.direct and I’m not using the VESmart bluetooth network. Also, the manual explicitly states this will interoperate with a VenusOS, which is why I am asking for any relevant experience.
I am aware of this issues with smart and a gx device interoperating and that’s not at play here.
