Using Multiplus II 48/5000/70-50 GX and a cerbo togehter

Hey everyone,

I asked a question in the past and the answers were so beneficial that I am once again looking for your help ;))

Some context: me and a group of students are installing an off-grid PV system on a pedagogical farm/school in Senegal. We wanted a normal MultiPlus II 48/5000/70-50 because then we were independent and future proof (for our system). For this we bought a Victron Cerbo GX and Touch already in Belgium before departing (was cheaper here). Today the delivery came from the local supplier. The MultiPlus II we got is a GX variant of the same specs (we don’t have a real option to change it).

Now we are wondering what are the consequences of this? Because apparently the built-in GX won’t be sufficient to monitor two MPPTs (what we have) and also not that future proof to expansion-related burdens. Is it possible to use a MultiPlus II GX with an independent Cerbo GX itself? What do you guys suggest? Is it an option to turn off the built-in GX in the MultiPlus II? Or is that a dumb idea?

Of course, the built-in GX can also manage a larger number of MPPTs. I use an MP2-3000-GX with 3 MPPTs myself, and it’s absolutely no problem. I assume you’re concerned because the integrated GX has only a single VE.Direct port. However, you can easily expand that. I have a Duppa quad-port connected to the USB port, which provides 4 VE.Direct connections.

The built in GX can monitor a number of mppt’s.

I have mp2gx with 4no. Mppt’s + shunt on ve diect connection + 2no. Jkbms connected via rs485 to duppa 4way adaptor + arduino on usb.

There is 1no. Ve direct port on the normal connection area and there is an additional unused ve direct port on the internal pcb board(remove main blue cover to gain access).

Alternatively you can use a usb to ve direct cable( can also use multiple usb to ve direct cables with usb hub or a duppa 4port usb to ve direct adaptor).

Cant answer question on cerbo, as never needed one.
