Gday, My question is, I currently have solar controller with a connected load output, in my caravan. I’m not sure what is connected to , but obviously small draw led’s etc. I am upgrading the system to lithium, and will upgrade the solar controller to a Victron mppt of similar amperage (45amp) Most solar controllers now, do not have load outputs, only batt and solar. What would I do with the pos and neg load output wires if I upgraded the solar controller? Some have suggested connecting them to the battery connection on the controller. Is this advisable?
I would not connect them in the same terminal unless you are sure the wires are smaller than the terminal holes. If I was doing this there are 2 options.
-
Put a connection block by the MPPT, connect the existing battery and load wires to this and add a new short wire from the connection block to the MPPT.
-
Extend the load wires to the battery with their own fuse and isolator.
That is great advice, running the wires direct to the battery will be problematic due to the cabinetry in the caravan. I will look at the connection block. Thanks for the reply.
