Just a heads up for anyone else who decides to update their Multiplus firmware and they’re in the UK.
It seems that the firmware has had a new UK grid standard adding in the last 12 months.
After updating mine (via the firmware update option on the VRM page), my inverter was no longer inverting. In turn this disabled ESS and decided to fully charge my batteries from the grid.
After a google (the discord page was down) I had to go into the VEConfig tool using the USB cable, and select the UK network standard I needed (G99 in my case), to do this I needed the grid password, not simple to find.
All this took a couple of hours of head scratching, googling and re-reading my setup notes.
The reason for this post is that hopefully anyone else updating old firmware in the UK is ready for the required fixes as they don’t get implemented automatically by the update routine.
For people who may see this post, here is some background info. The UK grid code used to be a single code for G98 & G99 combined. The new firmware now has separate codes for G98 and G99 so the update can not keep the pre existing grid code and you need to enter a new one.
The grid code password should be obtainable from your dealer, get this first before updating firmware as Spencer notes.
Yes I know, it’s all working now.
The reason for my post was to inform others who were considering updating the firmware in the UK so they were ready with all the information they needed. Unlike me who had to find it
Is there any reason to upgrade to v510 if you are on a G99 connection? AIUI the new separate G98 code is to ensure export doesn’t exceed 16A, which doesn’t apply to G99 users.
I didn’t upgrade to get extra types of connection.
I have recently started to use DESS and was having issues in it not working as expected under some scenarios. Looking on the victron groups suggested others had newer firmware than my setup and did not have these issues. I chose to update all items to hopefully make my issue easier to resolve if it continues.
I wasn’t given any choice of firmware or given a feature list. My GX updates have all been seamless and I assumed this update would be too!
Nor my post, I am expecting my DNO to allow an upgrade to G99 with 32A export and so was hoping s/o would answer my question. Maybe @pwfarnell knows the answer?
