The difference between the terms Isolated and Non-isolated on the Orion DC-DC Charger and How Would I Determine Which One I Need

I tried to research this before submitting this question and have found nothing or maybe I didn’t look properly, but I am trying to figure out how to select between an Isolated and a Non-isolated DC-DC charger. There appears to be no difference between the two when I read the documentation. Thanks for you help.

Thanks. I didn’t notice that. That clarifies things.

For some reason, my search did not bring them up. Thanks.

I have a loosely related question:
I am putting a 2nd battery in a vehicle that DOES have a metal chassis/common ground.

I happen to have an available isolated dc-dc charger from another project.

While I realize that a non-isolated unit is the proper type for this application, what I can’t find definitive guidance for is, is there a reason why I couldn’t/shouldn’t use the isolated unit - will the grounds communicating with each other cause problems?

TIA!

Ofc you can use the isolated unit

Ludo is correct - while you can’t use a non-isolated charger in an isolated setup, you absolutely can use an isolated charger in a non-isolated setup, no problem.
