Hi all, I have a MPPT based off-grid system running for months without a problem using only the AC-OUT1 of a Multiplus 48/5000 II. Yesterday I tried the “Limit internal charger to prioritize other energy sources” function and set the sustain voltage to 52V. I wrote the new settings to the multiplus and connected the grid to the AC-In. Before plugging in the grid my batteries were fully charged at 57V. And the active AC-loads of around 300W were driven by the MPPT’s 300W solar. All good. A few seconds after connecting the grid the Multiplus switched to charge mode (sustain in VRM) and gave the 300W from the grid. The solar dropped to zero. Not what I expected. I intended to use the grid as a backup for a lack of solar. What went wrong here. Did I forgot to set something somewhere? I checked in Node-red for the “1” - Renewable energy preferred flag in the VE-BUS node and it is reporting active.
Can you expand on your system config? Any assistants or mods installed?
What battery are you using?
The inverter config?
Solar priority has a specific use case.
Solar and wind priority
This is a new feature, designed for boats, vans and other systems with a shore power connection.
Solar & wind priority gets to work when plugged into shore. It then ensures that solar & wind power are used to charge the battery, while the shore power is used to prevent the battery from becoming too deeply discharged.
Most of the feature resides in the inverter/charger itself, and the GX is only used for showing the user what the system is doing, as well as providing the option to overrule the system and make it charge the battery with full power.
The manual is here:
It seems the function I have chosen is to prioritize DC loads only. It seems the “Ignore AC input” VS is the function I need instead. I will try it out one of the these days days.
Ok, that seems to do it. Solved.
