My set up is very simple for now as i would like to expand but i want to understand better first. I have the multiplus 2 2x120, 800 watts of solar going through renogy rover 60. 4 100 ah sok batteries connected to give 400 ah total. This is on a 50 amp rv. When i am just running my inverter without the grid and i stay within my power means i have no issues. The problem is i am connected to the grid now and what to use my solar to assist my power consumption. Ive tried a few different setting but cant seem to get it right. Ive tried the ess option and the virtual switch with no luck. I have it set to pull off the grid when loads get below 600 watts. It does that part fine but when the battery level gets low and say the ac kicks on it cant get back to the grid. The batteries will rebound back from the hard hit and it resets itself but soon as the ac load hits it shuts right back down. Its like it cant get to the grid fast enough. I am progamming through victron connect and veconfig. I know it basic but i really wanted to learn more before i expanded the system bigger. I do understand most of the settings but i feel like there is just some part i am not getting. Thanks for any help or suggestions.
This seems to be backwards? Usually the inverter will draw from grid when load is above the threshold, and revert to battery when below a second threshold…
This normally works fine with the virtual switch setting “ignore ac in”.
Yes you are correct, i did mistype that. It does go off the grid under 600 watts to use the batteries. I think the problem is when th ac kicks on its not reconnecting to the grid fast enough and it draws my battries down to the cut off point, which i do have set high at 12.5, so it hits that limit then shuts down completely. Battries rebound with no load and inverter resets. Then rv regains power but then the ac tries to start again and the cycle continues. If the multiplus could get back to the grid faster it seems like it would prevent that from happening. Side question, in veconfig why does the ess assistant not show all option like the gx does?
There will always be a delay in switching to grid, whilst the multiplus syncs to the grid. Turning off UPS function may help with this.
Virtual switch settings: Set VS on when: you can set load levels and battery voltage with delays on this tab.
You can’t use assistants and virtual switch at the same time.
The ESS options in VE configure depend on the battery type used. I would not be looking to try to use ESS on a setup like this Gx ESS options are related to running the ESS rather than limiting the setup conditions under which the ESS might operate. So in VE config, the inverter limits are set in terms of minimum battery state. In the GX operational limits are set, pertaining to the parameters that the GX knows. The GX then passes a power setpoint to the ESS assistant during operation (+x to -y Watts). The inverter then tries to follow this setpoint within the limits of the battery capacity. Hope this makes some sense to you.
Yes, this is all starting to come together the more i work with it. Thank you for the suggestions! I will give them a try tomorrow. I realky do appreciate the help.
