Solar Panel watts not showing up

Hi – I have just started connecting my solar panels to the solar charge controller, and battery. I first turned on the batteries then I connected the panels to the charge controller (via isolation switch), the smart charge controller does not show any watts or amps coming from the solar panel.

I used a multimeter to check that power was coming through the solar cables, and it produced quite a large spark. I then realized that the panels are at 14.3 A and my multimeter is only good for 10 A. Oops! Nevertheless, power is in the cables– I at least knew to check that.

How can I fix?

Thanks!!

Have you clicked on the phrase “Why is the charger off” with the little i for information icon on the Status screen.

Presumably you have a 48V battery.

More than 90% of problems seen are wiring, fuse, connector problems. Your screenshot shows good voltages so not readily apparent. Have you checked the terminal voltages on the MPPT are the same as on the battery.

Post a screenshot of your battery settings.

Why is there only 46 volt from solar? How many panels do you have?

Your solar needs to be 5v above battery voltage (48v) to start the mppt, when started it can be 1v above

So there is something wrong with solar voltage or series /parallel wiring

Thanks so much for the 5 V above battery voltage info. I was just using one panel to test everything after receiving your message. I connected my two 550 W panels in series that gave me a maximum of 84 V. Now everything is showing up on the Smart charge controller properly.
