Smartshunt and temp sensor issue

I have a cerbo gx with two temp sensors with one selected for battery temp charging and the other for room temp. I then installed a smartshunt and discovered the SOC was not using the temps for accurate SOC. So i installed the correct temp sensor on the smartshunt. With this temp sensor installed i assumed the smartshunt would use this temp data to improve SOC accuracy, even though i still have the cerbo gx sensor selected for battery temp/charging. The current temps are around 55 to 60 F. and im not sure it made a difference to the SOC. I could tell if it was -20F much easier.

Did i miss anything. Another thing is the temp reading from the smartshunt in the Victron connect app reads 8 degees warmer than the battery temp from the cerbo gx. But the temp reading does show up.

And in the VRM portal, the smartshunt temp sensor is not showing up on the dashboard veiw but the two cerbo gx temp sensors do. And when i look in device list it shows the smartshunt temp sensor was online but lost connection 4 days ago, or about when i installed it. So its reading in one place but not another?

Any thought will be appreciated. Thank you.

The shunt i would expect would normally show the temperature in the battery widget if it is set as the system battery monitor, since it is related to battery data.

It won’t affect SOC for lihtium but does affect temperature compensation charging and soc for lead based systems

And setting alarms related to temperature

Does this mean you already have a can connected lithium?

Terminal temperature can be different to internal temperature and ambient temperature. Testing and verifying is the best way to work out if there is a problem.

Thanks for the response.

I was under the impression that the temp sensor data on the smartshunt wasn’t as easily shareable system wide as the sensor data coming from the cerbo gx. So i planned to leave that temp sensor on the cerbo as the main battery temp. I am using the data cable and not the bluetooth.

I have flooded lead acid batteries. If i remember correctly, the cerbo gx temp sensor goes to the neg terminal and the smartshunt sensor goes to pos. i know there can be temp differences between terminals but i thought that was a bit much. I will try to check it with a heat gun next time there. Its a remote camp and takes me a while to get there.

I still don’t get why in the VRM portal device list it showed a connection to the smartshunt temp sensor around the time of install and then nothing since. thats been 4 or 5 days ago now. In Victron connect i did select temp sensor in the smartshunt settings.

Yesterday i did check the smartshunt battery temp connections and they were good but i didn’t check the data cable. Maybe thats it ? Ill check that next time.

The ones connected to the cerbo sometimes have to be calibrated or the offset adjusted. Did you do that?

I cycled the setting off and on in VC smartshunt>settings>misc>Aux with no change. in VC>smartshunt status page it does show the temp sensor. Keep in mind im using a windows laptop, and in VC system page display it shows 3 temp inputs. The two coming from the cerbo gx are displaying temps and the third shows no data. Id i go to the remote console and click on levels at bottom i see the two cerbo gx temp sensors. And if i go to settings>Devices i only see the two temp sensors connected to the cerbo gx. However, if i go to setting>Devices>smartshunt i see the temp sensor listed as battery temperature and the temperature is displayed. Although it seems high.

So if the cable going from smartshunt to cerbo gx wasn’t connected i would think there would be no temp displayed anywhere? I never calibrated the other sensors but i can check terminal temps with my IR thermometer. They seemed close to me. So i am wondering if i missed a setting somewhere.

I had a thought. Is it possible that the cable is disconnected and the smartshunt is communicating through Bluetooth only?

Not to the GX

Yesterday I went to the site and shut off the inverter for some ac wiring work, turned it back on and left. I didn’t spend and time on the smartshunt as I’m not sure what to check next. I wiggled a few connections on it only. This morning in the VRM portal I looked at the Device list and it showed that the smartshunt temp sensor had come online or was last seen up to 4 hours after my visit. Up until this visit the last time it was seen was at the time of first install, then nothing. Although i do see a temp reading in the VC when viewing the status page of the smartshunt.

Again, if its some loose or bad connection in the ve-direct cable to the cerbo gx i would think there would be no temp data at all.

So why does this matter? I don’t think the SOC temp comp adjustment is being made. Its no big deal right now but next winter when its -20F it will.
