Smart Battery Sensor not smart? ->Smart Shunt communication

Dears,

I am struggeling understanding what “smart” means for the Smart Battery Sense device as it seems that this device is only communicating with MPPT smart devices.
As I do have a Smart Shunt as well I would prefer that this is using the same information from the Smart Sensor insteadt of the wire-based temperatur cable for the shunt… (communication in victron app is only displayed in MPPT but not in Shunt…)
Also: why is the sensor or the Cerbo GX not “smart” enough to provide the temperature via VRM in the remote screen?

I mean this might be not a question on a hardware but software level, right?

“Smart” just means it has bluetooth, as is the case with most tech-oriented things.

VE.Smart Networking has many capabilities, but also many limitations; the VE.Smart Networking manual is the best place to start learning about both factors.

Hi Justin

Thanks for replying.

Indeed - the wondering about “smart” was more a discussion opener, the essence of my post is
Why is the smart shunt not able to use the temperature data from the battery Smart sense (in your document listed as able to provide temp) as both are in the VE.Smart Network ?

The smart mppt can use this value, the shunt not.
Unfortunately your answer and the document didn’t helped me to come closer to that.

Have the feeling it is just like this to make me buy some more Victron cables…

BR, Florian

For what should the SmartShunt use the temperature from the smart sense?

As far as I know the voltage/temperature measured by the SmartShunt has a higher priority in the smart network.

From the manual:

Simply put, because both devices are transmitters, not receivers - see page 4 of the manual.
