Hello everyone. I have purchased a smart shunt but im not 100% sure about the placement of it. I have read the manual and i know that the shunt connects to the battery negative and there also cant be anything else connected to battery negative at the same time. I have attached a photo of my battery setup and have also tagged the wiring, please let me know if there is an issue with anything you see. Im just looking for some advice in the placement of the shunt.
Thanks in advance
Graeme
Remove the MPPT and fuse box wires from the negative terminal of the front right battery by your knee, connect these to the system/load side of the shunt. Connect a new cable between the battery terminal of the shunt and the negative terminal of the front right battery by your knee. From your write up I do not think this is what you were asking but I added it for completeness.
You really do not want the shunt directly above those Trojan batteries which can vent acid fumes. You could put it on the floor at the right hand side but again this is vulnerable to any acid. if I was doing this I would add a partition to the right of the batteries that was higher than the batteries and place the shunt on the outside of this partition.
And while you are in there put some red insulation tape markers on the positive cables that are black and get rid of the green/yellow earth insulation tape, this colour tape has no place in a DC system.
Thanks for your reply. Thats exactly what I was asking thanks. Cheers again for the advice. I will move the shunt and also order better cables to change out the earth ones.
Regards
Graeme
